Health Care Law
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in March 2010. The ACA enabled states to create their own health insurance marketplaces, like MNsure, where Minnesotans can shop and compare plans, see if they qualify for savings that would lower their health care costs, get free application and enrollment help, and enroll in quality, comprehensive coverage.
Creating MNsure
On March 20, 2013, Governor Mark Dayton signed House File 5 (HS5/SF1) into law, establishing a state-based marketplace for Minnesotans. The Minnesota House and Senate bills were introduced by State Representative Joe Atkins (DFL - Inver Grove Heights) and State Senator Tony Lourey (DFL - Kerrick).
