Reporting Changes for Households with both Public and Private Coverage
How to report changes if your household has a combination of public program coverage (Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare) and private insurance coverage.
- Note there are different deadlines for reporting changes for Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare and private insurance. Know your rights and responsibilities for reporting changes.
- Gather the information needed for the change you are reporting for your private coverage. Giving complete information can help to avoid delays.
MinnesotaCare and Private Coverage
Changes for MinnesotaCare and private health coverage must be reported within 30 days of the change happening. To report a change with this combination of coverage you can do either of the following:
- Call the MinnesotaCare Information Line at 651-297-3862 or 800-657-3672 to report the change for MinnesotaCare. Say you also have private health coverage that needs to be updated.
OR:
- Call MNsure at 651-539-2099 (855-366-7873 outside the Twin Cities) to report the change for your private coverage. Say you also have MinnesotaCare that needs to be updated.
Medical Assistance and Private Coverage
Changes for Medical Assistance must be reported within 10 days of the change happening. Changes for private coverage need to be reported within 30 days. To report a change with this combination of coverage, do either of the following:
- Call your county or tribal office to report the change for Medical Assistance. Say that you also have private health coverage that needs to be updated.
OR:
- Call MNsure at 651-539-2099 (855-366-7873 outside the Twin Cities) to report the change for your private health coverage. Say you also have Medical Assistance that needs to be updated.
